BAföG

Renewed extension of the BAföG maximum funding period!

Due to the corona-related restrictions at the universities, the maximum funding period will be extended by two semesters for all students in Hessen whose maximum funding period ends in March 2020 or later and who were enrolled in the summer semester 2020 (at least in the 1st semester). Students who only began their studies in the winter semester 2020/2021 benefit from an extension of the maximum funding period by one semester.

Also, the performance record with the usual achievements at the end of the 4th semester, which is required for funding from the 5th semester, is now due one or two semesters later. In the case of a change of subject, the summer semester 2020 and/or the winter semester 2020/2021 are not taken into account when counting the subject semesters.

The extension of the maximum funding period is automatically taken into account by the Office for Student Financial Aid when processing a first or repeat application. However, all students whose grant period is about to end should submit a repeat application quickly!
